Suburban Ecologies by Jesse Colin Jackson

Presented by Claire Trevor School of the Arts at UC Irvine (CTSA) at Online/Virtual Space

THE EXHIBITION
Suburban Ecologies at Irvine’s Great Park Gallery features seven interlocking photography, video, and sculpture projects conceived in response to the natural and built environments in which we live: the repeating architectures of the City of Irvine, the competing waterfronts of Orange County, and the topographic space and time organized by the Santa Ana River. The Great Park Gallery, at the center of both the City and the County, provides an ideal location for these conceptual collisions.

Adam Sabolick, the curator of Suburban Ecologies, is a Community Services Specialist for the City of Irvine, focusing on the programming and curation of exhibitions within the Palm Court Arts Complex at the Orange County Great Park.

Valerie Olson (Department of Anthropology) is an environmental anthropologist. She studies how social groups relate to big spaces that extend beyond their everyday experience, such as oceans, outer space and watersheds. She recently participated in a collaborative ethnographic project to show how diverse underserved communities experience water quality, access, and decision-making inclusion and exclusion in the Santa Ana watershed.
