Ketu Katrak and Jay Pather on Performance, Space and Politics in South Africa

This book launch event for Ketu H. Katrak's Jay Pather, Performance and Spatial Politics in South Africa (Indiana University Press, 2021) features South African choreographer, curator, and theater director, Jay Pather, Professor in the Center for Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies at the University of Cape Town, in conversation with author, Ketu H. Katrak, Professor, Drama Department, UCI. This conversation, and the following program, will be moderated by Professor Nomusa Makhubu, Associate Professor in Art History and Visual Culture at the University of Cape Town.

Follow will be a short dance clip with Nelisiwe Rushalang, Sibusiso Gantsa, Noxolo Maxholbi, and Ntlandtla Maxhobi spanning four generations of Artistic Director Jay Pather's Siwela Sonke Dance theater Company, followed by brief remarks from Professor Catherine Cole, University of Washington, Seattle, and Khanyisile Mbongwa, Chief Curator of the Stellenbosch Triennale.

After a second dance clip, there will be brief remarks by Mbongeni Mtshali a multimedia artist, and Bob Meintjies of Afrovibes Festival based in the Netherlands (Pather is Artistic Director of Afrovibes).
