Prayers and Sacred Stories - Exhibition

Prayers and Sacred Stories - Exhibition

Presented by Las Laguna Art Gallery at Laguna Village

Las Laguna Gallery presents: Prayers and Sacred Stories – A Human Element Project*

This solo exhibition features work by artist Lori Shocket MD.

Prayers and Sacred Stories is a new body or work that investigates mankind’s participation in veneration, rituals, and religion. The mixed media paintings invite viewers to question and explore the varied ways in which different cultures look to the spiritual world for support, guidance, balance, and rule or law. The diverse assortment of works incorporates materials like twine, wire, beads, string, and hand-made paper. Some works include actual handwritten prayers, individual stories or mantras woven into and within the art. Shockets’ use of multiple-layers, textures, and color provide additional dimension to an already engaging subject. This series sheds light on practices from Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs. Also examined are prayer practices from Jewish Traditions, Australian Aboriginals, and the Maasai.

Shocket has exhibited her works at the Simon Wiesenthal Center Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, Laguna Arts Festival, LAC+USC Medical Center, The Institute for Genetic Medicine at the USC Keck School of Medicine, and the Jewish Holocaust Centre in Melbourne, Australia.

Las Laguna Gallery is located in Laguna Village on Coast Highway. This artist alcove features art galleries, shops, a restaurant, breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and live music most nights.
