Kate Cohen’s Explanation of the Doodle, which was born out of a need to find and live in joy while she was fighting stage IV head and neck cancer. Now six years cancer free, the artist maintains her practice as an avid doodler and has realized that the doodle IS the art.

Using a combination of poured acrylic, ink, oil and oil pastel on either paper or raw linen, Cohen creates an interplay between subtle, transparent areas and opaque, saturated colors. Her work marries her love of line with color, creating a rich abstract narrative with her personal vocabulary of shapes and surfaces inspired by her mind's eye.
