Artist Talk: Gretchen Batcheller

Presented by Irvine Fine Arts Center (IFAC) at Online/Virtual Space

Irvine Fine Arts Center (IFAC) presents a series of  Artist Talks in support of our current exhibitions, Mirror and Terrain. Learn about the inspirations, processes, and artist backgrounds that inspired the works on view in the exhibits. Each talk will be held on Zoom, and advanced registration.

Meet Gretchen Batcheller is a painter and Assistant Professor of Fine Art at Pepperdine University, Malibu, California. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

History—familial and historical—and the haze of memory inform Gretchen Batcheller’s paintings on view in Mirror. Situated between abstraction and representation, her paintings critically revisit her family’s generations of military service, as well as her earliest memories of living on military bases throughout Japan.
