Saddleback Gallery presents, Pieces, by artist Sara Hassan Khani (b. Tehran, Iran 1992) .  The exhibit explores ideas of home as a sanctuary and its relationship with solitude, privacy, memory, and personal history. Sara’s work often employs the ornamental repetition and decorative elements from Persian culture, but with blurred, blended, and layered imagery that disrupts tradition. Among the works in the exhibition is a large installation consisting of ninety-five 12” x 12” panels that undulate along the walls and floor in a fragmented grid, mimicking traditional tile floors found within Persian domestic spaces. “I strive to use patterns in a way to free them from being primarily decorative or expected as they combine and transform into unexpected shapes. The movable structure of the panels allows me to disrupt the image. The geometric units oppose the fluidity of the paint.”
