Join us at Laguna Art Museum for an evening lecture, A Closer Look: William Mortensen.

Learn about William Mortensen’s impact on photography and on image making in the 20th century with Britt Salvesen and Rochelle Steiner. Salvesen and Steiner will discuss a wide range of topics from his hyper-realistic portraits to his wild manipulation of the figure; his love of celebrity culture to his fascination with the grotesque. Salvesen and Steiner will also address Mortensen’s work in Hollywood and in Laguna Beach, and how each site and situation influenced his work. As well, they will discuss his influential teaching approach, known as “The Mortensen Method,” the controversies he sparked in his own time, and his legacy today.
