OCMA presents a free film screening of, Tell Them We Were Here. Art is a reflection of the place from which it emerges. Tell Them We Were Here celebrates the work of eight artists who engaged with the legacies of Bay Area activism and social consciousness. In an age of hypercapitalism, these artists represent an empowering alternative worldview that emphasizes creativity and community over capital. (Run time: 1 hour, 28 minutes.)
The film follows the work of artists Sadie Barnette, Amy Franceschini (Futurefarmers), Jim Goldberg, Tucker Nichols, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Alicia McCarthy, Nigel Poor (Ear Hustle), and Michael Swaine.
Framed within the last 25 years of Bay Area artmaking, this 2021 film intersects with artists currently on view in California Biennial 2022: Pacific Gold including Sadie Barnett, Alicia McCarthy, and Claire Rojas.
Join us after the screening for a Q&A with the filmmakers, Griff and Keelan Williams.
Tickets are free with required advance reservation
