Art in Context: The Arts of Venice from Byzantium to Biennale (Part 6 of 6)

Presented by Bowers Museum at Bowers Museum

Presented by Lisa Boutin Vitela, Renaissance Scholar
This series explores Venice’s improbable rise from the lagoon and tracks Venetian art from late antiquity through today.

March 8 | A Contemporary Art Center: Biennale di Venezia

Venice has continued its artistic relevance through its Biennale, the city’s biannual international art exhibition. This exhibition can be found in designated halls, pavilions, and gardens as well as integrated into other historic structures in the city. Contributions by artists Edward Hopper, Jasper Johns, Yayoi Kusama, and Louise Bourgeois helped to secure their places in histories of modern and contemporary arts.
