The exhibit “Back to the Ranch” consists of fifteen new paintings by award-winning artist Jeff Sewell. Capturing the natural beauty of Aliso and Wood Canyons, the land that once comprised the historic Moulton Ranch. The park was part of Moulton Ranch, a nearly 22,000-acre farming and ranching operation. We hope you can join us for opening reception on March 9th at 6pm.

Artist Jeff Sewell was born and raised in Southern California.  Jeff is well known for his Paintings of California Scenery.  He paints predominantly “en plein air” and also enjoys developing works in his studio. Jeff Sewell is an Award winning American Artist, focusing on California Impressionism.  Jeff has won many awards. Most recently, he won best in show at LPAPA’s 24th Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational.

Moulton Museum is proud to celebrate the pioneer spirit with our local community. We couldn’t think of a better way to transport you back in time than to enlist the creative talents of local artist, Jeff Sewell, as he preserves the living history found in Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park.

We are fortunate to work with such talented individuals who have the ability to capture the natural beauty of the land that has comprised Moulton Ranch for all these years. We hope you enjoy a glimpse into the past of Orange County history by viewing Jeff Sewell’s creations and exploring the park’s many trails.

Did You Know?

Some of the Moulton Ranch corrals that were used for both sheep and cattle operations still stand in the canyon near Soka University.
Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park is nearly 4,500 acres.
Lewis Moulton purchased Moulton Ranch from Cyrus Rawson in 1895.
The Moulton family, working with California Rangeland Trust, has preserved their 14,000-acre ranch in Lompoc, CA through a conservation easement to prevent future commercial development.

Moulton Museum invites you to attend our opening reception of Jeff Sewell's exhibition "Back to the Ranch" on Thursday, March 9th at 6:00 p.m. Jeff will debut his new collection of paintings depicting historic Moulton Ranch created within Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. Meet the artist and learn about his en plein air technique. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served.

Moulton Museum cares about community and our environment - key ingredients to the Pioneer Spirit. Our community is fortunate to have living history preserved and available for visitors to explore in Aliso and Woods Canyon Wilderness Park. Moulton Ranch existed with this land and its natural beauty that still remains. Viewing Jeff Sewell’s creations and explore the park's many trails that take you back in time to the ranching period of California history.
