Vanessa Rothe: Contemporary Realism and Abstraction: The New Hybrid Style

Presented by Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University and Vanessa Rothe Fine Art (VRFA) Gallery at Unknown

Hilbert Museum is pleased to present an exclusive lecture, Vanessa Rothe: Contemporary Realism and Abstraction: The New Hybrid Style.  Enjoy a beautiful slideshow along with this enlightening lecture, with time for audience Q&A afterward.

What style of artwork is popular today across the United States, from New York City to California? Contemporary Realism – a style that combines fine realism and abstraction. This lecture examines the genesis of this genre, from the resurgence of plein-air painting in the early 2000s to the current appreciation of realist techniques, to the incorporation of impressionist elements and abstraction.

You will also learn about the artists working in this exciting new genre today – including those whose works can be seen in the Hilbert Museum.

Vanessa Rothe – curator, art dealer, editor, writer, artist and lecturer – served as West Coast editor of  Fine Art Connoisseur magazine for 16 years and is now a contributing editor for American Fine Art and American Art Collector magazines.
