Training Artists, Transforming Lives.    At the College of Performing Arts (CoPA), we cultivate a vibrant atmosphere that combines abundant possibilities for scholarship, creativity, free expression and intellectual curiosity with real world experience.

Department of Dance
As dance majors at Chapman, students participate in a strong professional training program with high quality productions while still enjoying the benefits of a small university. Students may choose from a pre-professional Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance Performance or from the more broad based Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance. Both degrees provide excellent preparation for those who plan to enter the professional dance world and/or attend graduate school.  The curriculum for dance majors includes course work in choreography, dance history, dance production, dance performance, acting, music for dancers, dance science, dance teaching methods, ballroom, somatics, hip-hop, tap, and comprehensive pre-professional training in modern, jazz and ballet technique.

The Department of Dance is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance.

The William D. Hall and Marybelle and Sebastian P. Musco Conservatory of Music provides aspiring musicians with a rigorous and progressive education of distinction for the professional and intellectual development of artists and scholars in a supportive, liberal arts environment.  Our outstanding curriculum offers a musical and academic foundation that prepares our students for vibrant and diverse professional careers.

Chapman University first offered the Bachelor of Music degree in 1930 and continues to offer a diversity of performance opportunities and a thorough music curriculum blended with liberal arts studies.  The Conservatory’s excellent facilities compare with institutions far larger in size while our students have direct contact with faculty, without substitutions or teaching assistants, providing a personalized education not seen at larger institutions.  Our supportive community of faculty and alumni are leading the music industries of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, creating a fantastic resource for professional growth and career opportunities for our students, allowing them to go from Chapman to careers throughout the world.

The Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

Department of Theatre
As theatre majors at Chapman, students participate in a strong professional theatre curriculum with high quality productions while enjoying the benefits of a small university. While earning their B.A. in theatre, students gain real-world experience from working onstage and backstage with professional organizations such as Shakespeare Orange County.

The Department of Theatre faculty and staff are dedicated to providing an education with strong professional ethics that empower students to pursue career paths appropriate to their abilities. The theatre department strives for excellence in a professional work environment that is instilled with mutual respect.

The Department of Theatre offers three programs tailored to the specific goals of each student. First, our broad-based BA degree in theatre, with an area of study in theatre technology or theatre studies. Second, the pre-professional BFA degree in theatre performance, and third, the interdisciplinary BFA in screen acting offered cooperatively with the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. All of the degrees provide students with excellent preparation to attend graduate school or enter the profession directly from college.

The curriculum for theatre majors includes introductory classes in performance techniques, technical theatre, and theatre studies. Each degree program provides in depth and advanced coursework appropriate to the degree track.

The Department of Theatre is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.
