Aleena Malik’s design for the new 22- by 50-foot mural was selected from among 200 entries and judged by a panel of 10, including Vlesydi Loveland, senior park ranger of South Coastal Operations with OC Parks. The project, done in collaboration with OC Parks, has been in the works for more than a year. “I tried to encompass what Salt Creek is,” Malik said. “It’s got an interesting vibe. It’s very laid back. That’s why the Volkswagen bus and the surfboard are beat up; everything about the design is very casual.”
