The monument’s installation is “a midpoint on a long journey in raising awareness of drug abuse and how we can prevent needless deaths”.

The Drug Abuse Awareness Plaque and Statue, was dedicated in a ceremony by the City of Mission Viejo on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. It features a child sitting on a globe reading a book.
