Mary Ellen Weherli, 1998

Mary Ellen has an affinity for nature. While she creates abstract works, her representational pieces are more prevalent, including this mural. “It’s a montage of California – the orange grove, the mission, the water, and the ridge – all tie into the history of California,” Mary Ellen explained. The second panel pays homage to the Asian field workers, who once cared for the abundant orange groves. “That’s part of the history of Southern California too.”
