This mosaic was designed to depict the galleons of the early Portuguese explorers as they sailed off the coast of Africa in search of spices. The mosaic technique used by this artist dates back to Roman times 2000 year ago. Each glass tile, the size of a thumbnail, is precisely placed to create the larger image.
