Smallwood Park was named after Don and Mary Smallwood, both of whom were extremely active in the local community. Mrs. Smallwood was a city council member and Mr. Smallwood served on the Newport Mesa Unified School District school board from 1971 to 1978. Dedicated November 8, 1978.
