A Tranquil Moment Jason Kopydlowski, 2002 Crazy quilt brick work lining the wall serves as backdrop for two living room chairs created of bronze with a table between them. To honor the family who donated the land for the park, one of the bronze books on the table is titled "Browns". The artist, Jason Kopydlowski said, "As people pass by this homage to the history of the city, I invite all to rest and sit on the art work and enjoy this public space." Canyon Chess and Checkers Marlo Bartels, 1981 Laguna Beach artist Marlo Bartels had no idea that this ceramic tile game table and chairs, created for Main Beach would become his signature and a city land mark. Working in ceramics, Marlo shapes, forms and glazes each element by hand before assembling them. Funded by the City of Laguna Beach and the National Endowment for the Arts

Canyon View Jorg Dubin, David P. Cooke, and Jeff Peters, 2005 The surrounding canyon environment inspired this functional artist designed installation. The seating elements replicating natural sandstone are made of reinforced concrete and cedar seating. Chambered Nautilus Bench Carolyn Reynolds, 2001 A legend is associated with this piece and that says, "Triton rode this shell to the surface of the ocean to enchant the sea nymph. Her love inspired Triton to make the Nautilus the most beautiful shell in the ocean; ever since the Nautilus has been honored as the pearly ocean chauffeur. Touch the pearl in the center of the shell and your travel wish will come true." Funded through a donation by Mark Porterfield Artist Designed Bench

Coyote Bench

Coyote Bench Nobuho Nagasawa, 1990 to 1992 The coyote is one of the most tenacious animals living in Southern California. It has adapted well to the intrusion of man, easily surviving on discarded food rather than hunting the wild. Native Americans in earlier times gave coyotes great respect, commemorating them in a story now revealed in the "Coyote Bench". YTUR is an phonetic pronunciation of the Gabrielino word for coyote. The bench itself is rough, closer to raw and natural materials than one usually expects in urban settings. Its exposed rocks come directly from the earth. The rocks however are imbedded in concrete, a material that is used widely in constructing our cities. The bench is a reminder of the complex relationship between civilization and the natural world. Coyote’s footprint is sandblasted in the sidewalk.

Oil - The Evolution Marlo Bartels, 2017 Like a large derrick. Brea is founded on oil, the first people in Brea were oil well cutters. Wanting to use the image of an oil derrick, it has five sides so you can see more than one side at a time. It includes through the crossbars of the derrick the landscape of Brea (pepper trees, poppies, and cactus). At night it lights up. Depicted around the base are diatoms- the microscopic single cell organisms that when they are pressed under the ocean it creates oil. It is part of a 3/4 mile park part of Blackstone Homes. Paleontological

Paleontological Marlo Bartels, 2017 The sculptures are two sided-one on each side of the street. They are bus stop benches that were made with crushed shell. This area (Brea) was underwater and it reminds people of that past, and can still be found in the soil around there. So Marlo created these extra large shells, one is 11 feet and the other is about the same size. They are a large depiction of a trumpet shell and a turban shell. It is part of a 3/4 mile park part of Blackstone Homes. (Blackstone 6) Sponsored by Blackstone Homes, Inc.

Public Utility Forum "West Room"

Public Utility Forum "West Room" Buster Simpson, around 1993 or 1995 Area designed as a social gathering place, the outdoor forum features podiums strategically placed at opposite ends facing one another and resemble human shapes whose outstretched hand symbolize fellow man giving each a "helping hand". In the palm of each hand is a "nickel for your thoughts". The Room is filled with "A" shaped benches that swivel and feature photographs taken on-site before and after construction, with light fixtures overhead designed in the same human shape as the podiums "shedding light" on all who enter Buster's room.

Support Louis Longi, 1999 211 North Coast Highway Funded through a donation by the Inn at Laguna Artist Designed Bench “Support” created by Laguna Beach artist Louis Longi pays homage to the City’s long history and commitment to the arts, both through public art and the annual art festivals. The installation also gives visitors a respite at one of the most panoramic views in town. Three hallow figures support the seat, giving the bench its name. City of Laguna Beach public art collection.
