The Story of St. Serra

The Story of St. Serra Louisa Cooper The 18 panels show the life and jourey of Junipero Serra from infancy in Spain to maturity in San Juan Capistrano. They are located in the alcoves of the courtyard. Each panel shows a description of the image and is crafted with 6-inch tiles arranged in 2.5' x 2.5' panels. Junipero Serra was canonized as a saint by Pope Francis on September 23, 2015. Louisa Cooper is credited with the research for the narratives that accompany each panel traveling to Spain to study Serra's early life. She was born and raised in Honolulu. She divided her time between Hawaii and San Juan Capistrano with some time in Switzerland. She says, "Fr. Martin who was the pastor of the Mission parish at the time suggested a story of Fr. Serra be portrayed in tile panels." Her research enabled Santa Barbara artist Barbara Beale to create watercolor studies of the life of Fr. Serra which became the model for these 18 panels. They were installed in Serra Plaza and after a brief exhibition in the Mission, have been there ever since.

Third Reef Marlo Bartels, 2009 Marlo's vibrant ceramic mural is a conduit to Brooks Street Beach, a popular surf spot, and host to the Brooks Street Surfing Classic since 1955. The abstract mural captures the ocean, reflected in the tiles and shape, which curve with the coastline. Functional as seating or for standing, the ocean is nearly at your feet. "I hope it's inspiring and will be used for communication to show similarities between people," Marlo said. Created through a donation by Scott Holt, Skendarian family, Scottie Summers, Vanderveen family, and Willingham family

Towards the Solidarity of All Peoples Emigdio Vasquez, 1987 This mural has now been demolished. It was located at the Jerome Center. The mural was sponsored by the Bowers Museum and the California Arts Council.

Towards the Twenty-First Century

Towards the Twenty-First Century Emigdio Vasquez, 1985 In Towards the Twenty-first Centry, Vasquez included a quote by Abraham Lincoln: "The strongest bond of human sympathy outside the family relation should be one uniting the working people of all nations and tongues and kindreds." The mural is located at Manzanita Park in Anaheim. It was sponsored by Carl Karcher Enterprises, Inc., Los Amigos de Anaheim, Mr. Manuel Reynoso, and the City of Anaheim.

Tree of Life

Tree of Life Tom Van Sant, 1968 These three murals "Tree of Life", "Saint Martin's Cross", "The Last Supper" are sculptured relief murals made of plaster cement. It was funded or organized by William L. Pereira & Associates, architects. It is/was located at Geneva Presbyterian Church. It is not known whether the church was renamed or destroyed.

Tribute To Leo Fender

Tribute to Leo Fender Mike Tauber, 2001 Located at the Fullerton Transportation Center, the site of Leo Fender's historic electric guitar factory, "Tribute to Leo Fender" was a CUFFS project supervised by Fullerton Museum Center. Tauber was assisted by Fullerton Museum Center staff and students from Fullerton Union, Troy and Sunny Hills high schools. The figures depicted in the mural include Leo Fender, Jimi Hendrix, and actual Fender factory workers.

Twin-Winton Mural Arthur Ames and Jean Ames, 1951 This mural depicting the story of ceramics, personifying the elements of fire, earth and water, was designed and fabricated by Arthur and Jean Ames in 1952 for Brad Keeler Artware in San Juan Capistrano, California. In 1981, the 8' by 21' mural of 6" x 8" tiles was expertly moved to its present location in Mercado Village.

Un Amor de Loros Santaneros Alicia Rojas, 2018 The title translated to English is Parrot Santanero Love Birds. Rojas finished this mural in November 2018 for Fourth Element Gallery in Santa Ana. The mural is in an alleyway off Broadway, on the exterior side wall of the gallery.

Unknown Free Humanity Mural

Unknown Mural Free Humanity, 2018 This mural is composed of a bright multicolored pattern of quick "v" shaped stokes layered on top of each other. The piece painted by is placed on the side of a green dumpster in the alley between the Artist's Village Apartments and the Empire building. Condition: good.

Untitled Joshua Madrid, 2018 Artist Joshua Madrid says, "I have been working with this concentric design for about over 10 years now. Some people call them mandalas. They start in the center and work their way outwards. There are circles, straight lines, triangles, growing into each other and growing outwards. With the colors, it has a calming uplifting vibe and centers you and gives a peaceful message." This building was a city owned building with a past mural on it, this mural replaced the one before that had fallen into decay.
