Award Winning, 1996 - - Anamorph

Anamorph

Michael Davis; Anne Preston; and Richard Turner, 1995

Anamorph by Micheal Davis, Anne Preston, and Richard Turner presents references to the activities of competition, athletics, and spectating. In one part of the piece, a curved mirror reshapes distorted images of Greek athletic figures, providing a kinetic experience for thousands of rushing event-goers as they move past. Other elements suggest illusion, games, or the uncertainty inherent in athletics. The installation is part of a public art program at The Pond conceived and implemented by the City of Anaheim Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department (Chris Jarvi, Director) with the help of the Anaheim Arena Art Advisory Committee (Julie Mayer, Chair) and consultant Marc Pally.

The Architecture Foundation of Orange County recognized artists Davis, Preston, and Turner with the 1996 Art in Public Places Award.
