Venus
Douglas Tausik Ryder, 2015
Douglas Tausik Ryder uses digital design and industrial machine tools to directly fabricate in his Los Angeles studio. His work reconciles digital technology with traditional sculpting techniques. This work was inspired by his wofes pregnancy and his study of Paleolithic “Venus” figures dated to 40,000 years ago.
The Sphere is combined with a representation of a pregnant woman, offering meditations on human life and the canonical ideals of perfection. The interior is a perfect sphere, representing our hopes for the future. This work was first fabricated in wood and then cast in bronze.
