Life Drawing Class – Advance drawing
Increase your curiosity and engagement in drawing and a visual world by observational practice through the analyzing and rendering of form, space, structure, value, light and shadow. Students will develop drawing techniques, such as basic linear perspective, composition, chiaroscuro, and sfumato, while employing a wide range of drawing media and surfaces through still life drawing and studying of master paintings.
Learning Outcomes:
Accurately describe forms and space through gradations of value and convincingly draw light and shadow utilizing light logic.
Create drawings that demonstrate the principles of empirical/ observational perspective.
Understand when to use hard and soft edge relationship when observing differences in light and shadow.
Utilize and apply a wide range of drawing materials and techniques, including charcoal, white charcoal, and various tones of papers.
Supply List
1-2 sheets of tracing paper
3-5 sheets of DRAWING paper, 18” x 24” Strathmore 400 or equivalent
3 sheet of Canson Mi-Tientes paper, 19” x25” (2 Steel Gray #431, 1 Black #425)
1 White Charcoal Pencils
1 Blending stump
1 Artist tape
12” x 9” Sketchbook (Strathmore or equivalent ) White or toned (Optional)
1 Drawing board with clips – large enough to hold 18” x 24” paper (23×26 tote board)
Kneaded eraser and regular rubber eraser
Graphite Pencils: HB, and 2B
2 Charcoal Pencils 4B and 6B
Soft vine charcoal 3 packs
1 Sandpaper pad or Medium (#100) sandpaper to sharpen drawing tools
1 Safety knife (X-acto knife)
