Center for Living Peace
Kelly Smith, Newport Beach philanthropist, is the founder of the Center for Living Peace, Orange County.
The concept driving the development of the Center can be summed up in one simple phrase: “Good Happens”. It is a place where children, families, and adults of all ages can connect to self and their spirit, to others, and to the world. A place where each and every person can find their own special gifts and feel empowered to make a difference.
The Center for Living Peace provides a beautiful and inviting place for people to experience classes and programs dedicated to each of our four program pillars:
* inner growth and development
* peace making and effective communication
* safeguarding the environment
* arts and culture
This holistic approach to living peace acknowledges that peace can be lived and experienced in all aspects of our daily lives. The work of uncovering peace is not just through conflict resolution and mediation – it is in the way we care for our environment, appreciate arts and culture, and in every word we speak and every action we take.
The Center also provides opportunities for our class participants to engage in frequent service projects. Once you have taken part in a class with us, you are invited to be the change you wish to see in the world and to join us in “making good happen” in our community. From food collections, to beach cleans, to helping local organizations, the Center for Living Peace is committed to helping cultivate greater peace and compassion in individuals and to then supporting those individuals to make a difference in their community.
Along with the Center’s own expansion, Smith’s dream is for the Center to serve as a model that can be replicated by others who are searching for ways to make “good happen” in urban areas around the world.
We invite you to tell us what you’d like to find when you walk through the door. Is it classes for children on volunteerism and peaceful ways to live, a class series on environmental issues, or learning about how to engage in social action? We’re listening.
Or come visit us anytime, Tuesday through Sunday, at:
4139 Campus Drive
Irvine, CA 92612
One of our staff will be happy to talk to you about our mission and values and to give you a tour of the Center. We’ll see you soon!
