Love Birds

Love Birds Mike Tauber, 2020 The project was coordinated by the City's Public Art Committee and the Parks and Recreation Department, who chose Tauber's art from numerous designs submitted through a public call for proposals. "I'm most grateful to the Public Art Committee and the City for selecting and approving my design," Tauber said. The mural, completed in mid-July 2020 adorns the exterior of the restroom building, and may be viewed from the intersection of Myford Road and Hertiage Way. The mural features three bird silhouettes in bold graphic patterns. The colorful installation is composed of permanent kiln fired tile.

Love for La Mesa

Love for La Mesa Brian Peterson and Damin Lujan, 2019 Brian and Damin partnered with the Illumination Foundation to paint their shelter the La Mesa Shelter in Anaheim. This shelter is another beautiful collaboration between the Non-Profit sector, governement, health care, etc. to bring hope, dignity, love, and a hand up to our neighbors as these walls bring new saturation to an otherwise grey situation.

Magnolia Park Family Resource Center Mosaic Robin Marcarion, 2020 The City commissioned local artist Robin Marcario to create artwork that symbolized the community vibrant culture. The mosaic features unique elements, including descriptive words added into the art by the center's youth group, SOL (Strengthing Our Leadership). Originally the mosaic was planned to be unveiled in 2020 at the center's 20th anniversary, but was postponed due to COVID-19.

Main Street Branch Library Dumpster Mural Agi Palinay, 2017 This mural is part of the "Dumpsters on Parade" project. One of 30 artists to have the dumpsters designed and painted in an ongoing effort to help beautify the city with public art and bring the community together.

Malden Station Apartment Murals

Malden Station Apartment Murals Murals found on the walls of the Malden Station Apartments that look like historic photographs. There was one of an old-fashioned locomotive passing by an orange grove. Another mural showcased a California orange crate with the words "I am sending you a box of oranges from California" just above it . Large murals face the railway, paying homage to the City's historic past." Indeed they do, because further down the road, there are two more murals. One depicts a parade of historic cars rolling down Harbor Boulevard with a sign for "Fullerton Drug Company" cut off in the foreground and another of the tower at Fullerton Municipal Airport.

Martin Luther King (Day of Service) Mural The Grain Project Public Art Department: Joey Linnert and KidWorks, 2012 This mural was painted by The Grain Project Public Art Department, Joey Linnert, KidWorks, and the neighborhood youth in Santa Ana. About 200 volunteers painted a mural on a wall in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. The volunteers worked together throughout the day to create the “I Have A Dream” mural. The 45-foot-long wall is near Raitt Street at Richland Avenue in Santa Ana. “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'” said OneOC President and CEO Daniel J. McQuaid. “This is a time for people from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to many of our pressing local and national problems.” Condition: good

Memento Gerard Basil Stripling, 2004 Funded by the lodging establishments and City of Laguna Beach Public Art Created with artifacts and memorabilia donated by the community, and under the direction of artist Gerard, this mural was installed by the community. This Arts Commission program “Play a Part in Public Art” was highly successful and includes many precious items from heirlooms to pieces created by numerous Laguna Beach artists. Memorial Park Mural Roberto Del Hoyo, 2011 Roberto Del Hoyo painted the 5-sided pavement art mural located at Memorial Park Stage in Memorial Park. The stage was erected in 1957 under Mayor Ogden Markel. The mural was commissioned by the city in 2011. The iconography used in the Memorial Park Mural can be described as a combination of community, unity, and religious and spiritual imagery. Some of the mural's images represent culture, education and unity- musical instruments, a graduation cap, a pencil, etc. The colors red, white, and blue are the primary palate.

Memories of the Past and Images of the Present Emigdo Vasquez, 1977 Orange native Emigdio Vasquez makes the past very present in his mural located in the city of Anaheim. The American artist is known for his depiction of urban scenes including everyday people. The painting commemorated the protests during the Little Peoples' Park Riot in 1978. The mural underwent claims by the law enforcement of sensationalizing gangs in the region. The claims further state that his work expresses rebellion against oppressive government and spans three decades with more than 22 murals throughout the Orange County area. Emigdo said " [he] wanted to express personal feelings that would reflect the sentiments, aspirations and struggles of the Chicano working class...Because as an artist I do not believe in separating my pictoral viewpoint from my human and social one."

Migration is Beautiful/ Madres Emigrantes Alicia Rojas and Briyana Negrette Monarch butterflies take flight in Migration is Beautiful/ Madres Emigrantes, a mural created by Alicia Rojas with help from Briyana Negrette. The mural adorns a wall of Crear Studio, locates in the basement of Grand Central Art Center in downtown Santa Ana.

Milkmaids

Milkmaids Millard Sheets, 1960/1979 The two Millard Sheets murals on the Home Savings branches are at the intersection in Beuna Park across from Knotts Berry Farm. The milkmaids on the first branch represent an early, cut-out-of-black-granite model for installing the mosaics, before the Sheets Studio was completing all of the work in-house.

Mining Pecten Reef

Mining Pecten Reef Robert Evans Soon after Father Junipero Serra dedicated Mission San Juan Capistrano in 1776, Franciscan missionaries began converting local Acjachement to Christianity and bringing them to the missin to learn the European way of life. These converts-or neophytes, as they were called-tilled the soil, tended the crops, and helped construct mission walls and buildings. The mission population increased steadily, and by the 1790's, lime was constantly needed to make the plaster and mortar used to enlarge existing buildings and to construct new ones. One source of this mineral was the fossil limestone reefs of ancient seabeds. Native-American neophytes cut blocks of limestone from deposits like that found in Pecton Reef (an exposure of the middle to late Miocene Monterey Formation located in what became Laguna Hills) and took them to the mission to be heated in ovens until they were reduced to the valuable powder.

Mission to Mars: STEAM and Mars Education - The Future of our Children Moises Camacho, 2017 Mission to Mars the Red Planet: STEAM and Mars Education - The Future of our Children, painted by Moises Camacho, contains realistic depictions of the multiple NASA spacecraft missions (from right to left in appearance: Cassini and Saturn, Mars Village, ExoMars, Curiosity, Opportunity, Sojourner, and Odyssey). The mural was commissioned by Urban Tech Santa Ana as part of their outreach program to encourage children and students in Santa Ana to pursue an education in "STEAM" (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). It was completed in February of 2017, the mural received a small addition in August 2018.

MLB All-Star Game

MLB All-Star Game Roberto Del Hoyo, 2010 MLB All Star Game can be seen from the street in front of the parking at James C. Fremont Elementary School in Santa Ana. It is located specifically on the side of the El Salvador Center building next to the baseball diamonds. Roberto del Hoyo, the mural's artist, used red, green, blue, black, yellow, and white colors to make his four silhouettes of baseball players stand out as the subjects. Incorporating baseball and community iconography, the mural promotes youth sport involvement, team and community building skills, and encourages youth to work towards achieving one's goals through sports.

Mormon Battalion Trek Through San Juan Capistrano

Mormon Battalion Trek Through San Juan Capistrano The new Mormon Meeting House comissioned a mural for their property depicting the Mormon Battalion march into San Juan Capistrano. In 1847, the Mormon Battalion a group of about 500 men, marched more than 2,000 miles from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to San Diego to assist the United States in the war against Mexico. On March 20, 2004, a group of battalion reenactors paraded into San Juan Capistrano as part of the Swallows Day Parade and like the original battalion, they were warmly welcomed. This mural is about 4 ft by 10 ft and is located at the entrence to the Meeting House at 29273 Stallion Ridge Road near San Juan Hills High School. It was commissioned by the Meeting House to meet the Depiction Policy of the City.

Mosaic Mural Millard Sheets The colorful history of Anaheim is depicted in a mosaic mural decorating the former Home Savings & Loan Association building (now Washington Mutual). Nationally recognized artist, Millard C. Sheets was commissioned by Home Savings & Loan Association to create murals at their branches throughout California.

Moulton Ranch Center Mural Tim Smith, 2020 The Moulton Ranch Center (formerly the Cabot Town Center) has a mural that captures the spirit of Orange County's ranching heritage. Laguna Hill's first mural was completed by Tim Smith, LCAD Graduate. This vista was created from historical images from the archive. It is located on the exterior of the Howard's building.

Mowgli Murals Tara Chklovski, 2006 "I wish to commend Tara Chklovski on her outstanding dedication, creativity, and perseverance in designing and supervising the completion of an amazing series of full-courtyard murals for Wilson Elementary in Santa Ana, CA in June, 2006. These murals were commissioned as part of a corporate volunteer project supervised by L.A. Works," said Larry Deckel, Director of Programs L.A. Works. "The ecosytems/animals on parade murals have truly enhanced the learning environment at Wilson School. Students, staff and parents have continued to provide positive comments regarding the impact within the school community. Not only have the murals provided students with an educational tool to learn about animals and their attributes, they have also instilled upon our students a sense of pride," said Robert Anguiano, Principal of Wilson Elementary School.
