We capture personal and community narratives in video interviews. Social history emphasizes the importance of collecting every day perspectives. 70 Degrees follows best practices developed by the Oral History Association. We help you trace genealogical roots and preserve your heritage with tools like Ancestry and Family Search. Do you gather around the table to hear about the past from your elders and wonder if you’ll forget these experiences? Oral histories ensure that this past is never forgotten. Oral history tradition comes from folklore traditions. The spoken word can be captured in audio and video format to allow access in the modern age. 70 Degrees uses a Zoom audio recorder and 4K/HD video recorders to create archive ready products. We use a three-point lighting system which can be used at your host institution or alternate site. Each oral history interview is accompanied with an abstract, recording log, transcript, photos provided by the narrator, a photo of the candidate at the time of the interview, and narrator-interview agreement forms. The release form expresses the narrator’s consent for the interview to be made available on online platforms. We can digitize ephemera and personal photos to accompany the interview record. We can store these materials on a password protected or open access web interface.

The American Research Center in Egypt Orange County (ARCE/OC) chapter serves all counties from Ventura to San Diego to the Inland Empire. The ARCE chapters in the U.S. sponsor educational programs in almost all geographic regions of the lower 48 states.

Baroque Music Festival, Corona Del Mar

Welcome to the Baroque Music Festival, Corona del Mar: an annual celebration of Baroque music held in Orange County, California. Our homecoming 42nd season, June 19-26, marks the Festival's long-awaited return to live public concerts and features music by Baroque masters JS Bach, Handel, Telemann and others. We will enjoy the talents of extraordinary musicians playing Baroque instruments, and of internationally renowned singers who are sensitive to historical styles, performing in beautiful intimate venues in Corona del Mar and Newport Beach, including Sherman Gardens and local churches. Our Festival mission is to present the astounding wealth and diversity of the Baroque era in a wide variety of ways. Large-scale works, with and without singers, are offered on our Sunday concerts, while our three mid-week programs give the opportunity to enjoy smaller scale vocal and chamber music performances, all given by the finest musicians in the historically-informed Baroque field. We are proud to be a community festival and we welcome you to our community. We offer the chance to socialize with our musicians over “wine and waters” following each of our concerts.

Bowers Museum

Take a trip around the globe at the Bowers Museum! Opened in 1936, the Bowers prides itself on showcasing world-class arts and cultures in a warm, inviting space located in the heart of Orange County. Bowers has been voted "Best Museum in Orange County" by OC Register for 26 years and has organized more than 50 special exhibitions in just the past 15 years in partnership with some of the greatest museums in the world. Recent highlights include blockbusters such as Terra Cotta Warriors, Mummies: Treasures from the British Museum, Guo Pei: Couture Beyond, and Inside the Walt Disney Archives. Over 100,000 square feet and surrounded by lush gardens, the Bowers campus includes a 296 seat auditorium, 12,000 square feet of event space, a Patina-owned Tangata Restaurant, a robust Gallery Store, 8 permanent exhibitions, and spectacular featured exhibits on rotation, to ensure a full day of engaging fun with every visit. The Society believes that this legacy must not be lost and does in fact provide the basis and continuity for all aspects of community growth.

Catalina Island Museum

About the Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Building The new museum building designed by the architectural firm of Marengo Morton Architects, provides well over 18,000 square feet of exhibition and support space. Visitors to the new building discover all the amenities of a modern museum. The spacious Hagenah Family Lobby offers an impressive welcome to every museum visitor. The museum tour begins with a film about Catalina Island's history in the museum's Brown Family Digital Theater, which is located just off the main lobby. Also adjacent to the lobby is a fully appointed Harris Family Museum Store, which looks out onto the Hinchliffe Family Atrium. A mural composed of Catalina tile and designed by artist Richard Keit is a highlight of the atrium. The William Wrigley Jr. Gallery, the John and Hasmik Mgrdichian Gallery and the Artists' Plaza Gallery are all exhibition galleries dedicated to the island's history and to special exhibitions, many of which will travel to the island from collections throughout the world. One of the most unusual features of the museum is the amount of exterior space that exists both on the building's rooftop and in the gardens immediately adjacent to the museum. A large projection wall directly opposite the Ackerman Family Amphitheater, which seats approx. 100 people and accommodates the exhibition of films in the evening. The Artists' Plaza and Schreiner Family Plaza provide well over 8,000 square feet of outdoor space, appropriate for dance and music concerts, as well as public and private events.

Cottage Gallery on Los Rios, The

The Cottage Gallery is located on historic Los Rios Street in San Juan Capistrano. Our address is 31701 Los Rios Street. Los Rios Street is the oldest remaining residential street in California dating back to 1794 and draws lots of visitors to the area who love to stroll the length of the tree lined street. Our cottage was built in 1890, is on the Register of Historic Places and is known as the Rios StandfieldHome. We are only 3 blocks from the beautiful Mission and featured on the Guided Walking Tours offered to visitors. More history: In 1794, adobes were constructed on Los Rios Street to house soldiers and construction workers of the Mission. Three of the original adobes still exist. In the late 1800’s our Cottage was constructed in a second wave of homes built by European immigrants. Our Cottage is located 3 doors down from the historic and popular restaurants The Ramos House Café and The Teahouse. Our professional artists represent some of the most talented artists in Orange County. From oil painting, photography, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, print making, encaustic painting, sculpture, and collage, to glass, ceramics, wood & hand crafted jewelry, The Cottage Gallery offers a wide range of exceptional and beautiful art. El Centro Cultural de Mexico

El Centro Cultural de Mexico is an alternative space in Santa Ana where the community can find cultural, educational, and artistic activities that strengthen their identities, nurture their talents and develop a sense of leadership in their community. By engaging Orange County residents and communities through community outreach efforts, it supports inter and intra-cultural interaction and dialogue among Orange County’s residents by creating a variety of programs which enable all people to explore their own heritage and culture. Through educational programming, which includes workshops in dance, music, art, and literacy, it promotes understanding and appreciation of the contributions of the many cultures in our region by sharing knowledge of Mexico’s rich cultural, and educational, and social legacy. It seeks to be at the forefront of creating a strong ideological and cultural bridge to support bringing together a variety of cultural projects from Mexico and other parts of Mexico, Central and South America.

In 1998, members of the Garden Grove City Council, community, and business leaders came together with a common goal: to create an organization that would enhance the quality of life for Garden Grove residents and businesses. Out of their efforts came the Garden Grove Community Foundation (GGCF). Founded as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Foundation helped to create a better image of Garden Grove regionally, showcasing this community's unique features, its diversity and economic progress. The mission of the GGCF is to contribute leadership and resources to enhance community life in Garden Grove.

Halau Hula Lani Ola

Halau Hula Lani Ola is a traditional Hawaiian halau. We carry on the unique traditions of a Native Hawaiian lineage by teaching dance (hula), mele (music & songs), oli (chants & oral history), and na mea Hawai`i (all things Hawaiian). In addition to education, our outreach goal is to share the many art forms of the unique Native Hawaiian culture. We offer instruction for wahine (women), kane (men), kaikamahine (girls), and keiki kane (boys). All skill levels are welcome and we accept everyone from ages 6 to 80+ years old. Each class meets once a week for one hour. Class times vary so please contact us for details.

Heritage Hill Historic Park

Heritage Hill Historical Park is composed of 4.1 acres, four historic buildings and associated structures for maintenance and public restrooms. The fully restored and furnished historic buildings span the early history of the Saddleback Valley and El Toro area from the Mexican Rancho era, to the founding of the town of El Toro and through the citrus farming days of the early twentieth century. Guided tours through the buildings are provided for the public. They offer an interpretation of the Saddleback area history through artifacts, events and people.

Heritage Museum of Orange County (HMOC)

Heritage Museum of Orange County… Is a cultural and natural history center in Southern California. The centerpiece of the museum, which covers nearly 12 acres in all, is a historic plaza featuring several buildings from the 1890s set amid extensive floral gardens and citrus groves. Among the buildings is the Kellogg House familiar to teachers and students throughout Orange County as a favorite field trip destination for over 30 years. Recent additions to the museum include our Gospel Swamp Farm and the restoration of our Blacksmith Shop. The farm project is maintained by local high school and college volunteers. We’re currently installing a “Borrowing Barn” for tool lending and we utilize produce from the farm for our children’s educational programs and other museum events. Previously on site there was a fully operational blacksmith shop that was headquarters for the Orange County Blacksmith Guild and guild members held regular blacksmith classes. Unfortunately, the shop burned down in the wee hours of July 4, 2019 and it is now necessary to rebuild the shop. Demonstrations are still being provided for our educational programs, however no definitive schedule has been assigned for the completion of the rebuild. The latest major campaign for the museum is to restore the John A. Maag Farmhouse. The home, built in 1899, features three stories in 5,600 square feet of interior living space and is planned for the housing of museum archives, offices and exhibitions. Two original outbuildings of the Maag Farmhouse currently house offices, meeting space and our gift shop.

Heroes Hall Veterans Foundation

Heroes Hall Veterans Foundation celebrates the legacy of Orange County veterans, honors their sacrifices, and educates and inspires the community through their stories and personal experiences. The Heroes Hall Museum and Education Center is a free, permanent, year-round museum and education center with exhibitions, performances and educational programs. The two-story exhibition space will rotate themes semi-annually with each focusing on an aspect of the personal stories and experiences of veterans. Irvine Historical Society

The Irvine Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of the Irvine Ranch, once one of the largest private ranches in the United States. The Society is headquartered at the Irvine Historical Museum, the oldest standing structure within the original boundaries of the Ranch.

Irvine Park Railroad - Irvine Regional Park

Irvine Park Railroad is a one-third scale train that takes both children and adults on a scenic, 12-minute ride through beautiful and scenic Irvine Regional Park. The train ride is narrated by the engineer. Other activities inside of the park include Wheel Fun Rentals® at Irvine Park paddle boat and bike rentals, the Orange County Zoo and pony rides. Two snack bars serve both hot and cold food. Party pavilions and other locations available to rent for birthday parties, company picnics and other special events. Annual Irvine Park Railroad events include the Easter Eggstravaganza, Anniversary Celebration, Pumpkin Patch and Christmas Train. Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA)

Laguna Plein Air Painters Association was founded in 1996 by Saim Caglayan with the united efforts of Ken Auster, Jacobus Baas, Cynthia Britain and John Cosby. Primary motivation for the formation of LPAPA was to link the strong plein air movement of the early California painters to the present ones and to create a bond amongst the contemporary plein air painters throughout the nation.

Lyon Air Museum

Mission San Juan Capistrano

Founded in 1776, this restored mission offers a glimpse into Spanish colonial history and its influence on the area's culture. Roam the ten-acre site guided by a digital podcast that tells the stories behind colorful gardens, preserved statues and exhibits that detail how the original inhabitants lived. Don't forget to see Serra's Chapel, the oldest building in California still in use today. Mission Events: Living History Day: Mission San Juan Capistrano's Living History Society members dress in period attire to portray important figures in the Mission's history. Occurs every second Saturday of each month.

Museum of the Republic of Vietnam

The Museum of the Republic of Vietnam opened in the spring of 2016 in Westminster, California. It is the first and only museum in the world dedicated to the history of the Republic of Vietnam and its military. The museum is conveniently located in the heart of the largest community of the Vietnamese diaspora around the world - Little Saigon in Orange County. The mission of the museum is to honor veterans, preserve and study the history of the republic, and educate future generations. The museum exists as a community space open to the public where veterans and their families, students, educators, professionals, and anyone with an interest to discover more about the rich history of the Republic of Vietnam is welcome. Visitors to the museum have the chance to view a wide range of historical artifacts from the military and government of the Republic of Vietnam. Authentic dioramas and scale models of naval vessels as well as military aircraft and vehicles are also on display. Exhibits rotate on a regular basis, and continual visits to experience these new displays are encouraged. The museum also routinely hosts lectures, film viewings, and other educational programs open to the public. Additionally, the museum frequently participates in Little Saigon community events, such as the annual Tet Festival. Museum staff are also available for educational activities as part of school programs or arranging private group tours and lectures at the museum. Please contact the museum for more information. Nixon Presidential Library

The Richard Nixon Foundation is a privately supported, non-profit institution dedicated to educating the public about the life, legacy, and times of the Thirty-Seventh President. The Foundation supports exhibits and programs on the nine acre Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Birthplace, a three-dimensional walk-through memoir featuring 22 high-tech galleries, movie and interactive video theaters, the spectacular First Lady’s Garden, the President’s faithfully restored 1910’s birthplace, the magnificent full-size replica of the White House East Room, and the flower-ringed memorial sites of President and Mrs. Nixon. As a performing arts center for public affairs, the Foundation’s year-round programming features national policy conferences, study groups, town meetings, school editor forums, and a continual schedule of distinguished speakers and authors from government, politics, the media, and public affairs.
